11+ Creative Writing Workshops for Colyton

We are delighted to offer you a range of activities during the summer holidays to support your child with the new creative writing element of the Colyton 11+ Exam. Your child could take part in a 3 Day writing workshop, or stand alone Saturday writing workshops, or both!  The content of every workshop will be different and so your child could join in with all of the activities on offer.

The courses are created and delivered by qualified and experienced Year 5 and 6 teachers. Unlike other 11+ providers, we limit the number of students in our workshops to 6 children, which means that your child will receive the individual attention and focussed teaching they deserve.

3-Day Writing workshop

This workshop will provide comprehensive preparation for the writing element of the exam. During the three days, your child will have the opportunity to work on different types of writing task they may encounter in the real exam:

  • Writing from a prompt
  • Responding to an image
  • Continuing a story

Teacher-led activities will focus on story structure, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary in detail over the three days. We will provide guidance on exam technique, such as how to plan your writing and how to manage your time in the writing exam.

Saturday Morning Writing workshops

Our Saturday morning courses will provide your child with three hours of creative writing tuition with a qualified and experienced Year 5/6 teacher. It will give their writing a boost ahead of the exam and prepare them for the writing task.

The students will have the opportunity to practise writing from a prompt, share feedback and editing techniques to improve writing. There will be a focus on building a bank of characters/settings and a revision of grammar, punctuation and vocabulary. We will also provide guidance on exam technique, such as how to plan your writing and how to manage your time in the writing exam.

Each workshop will have different content

Maximum of 6 students per workshop

All Year 5 children who are sitting the exam at Colyton this year are welcome to join the sessions.

Using worked examples and proven techniques, your Child will feel confident and well-prepared for the challenge of the 11+ exam.

My son had a wonderful three days on a Creative Writing workshop. We found everything from organisation and communication through to the inspiring course delivery to be excellent, or according to my 10 year old son ‘awesome’. Thank you!
